Kenney Machinery Employee Competes in Half Ironman Triathlon

edit

half ironmanEver wonder what Kenney Machinery employees do in their spare time?  Well, in the case of our Business Manager, Scott Reckard, recently his spare time has included a lot of swimming, biking, and running.

That’s because Scott has been busy training to compete in a half Ironman triathlon–specifically, the Ironman Wisconsin race that took place on June 11th.

In case you aren’t familiar with the Ironman, it is widely considered to be one of the toughest races in all of sports.  A half-distance race consists of a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56-mile bike ride, and finishing with a 13.1 mile run (a total of 70.3 miles).  half ironman

It takes most people between 5-8 hours to complete the entire race, even in ideal conditions–and the day of Scott’s race was far from ideal.  Temperatures reached 92 degrees, with a heat index of over 100 degrees.

Due in large part to the extreme conditions, Scott wasn’t able to complete the race course before the cutoff time of 8 hours and 30 minutes, although he did complete the entire race distance.  While we applaud Scott’s achievement, we won’t be attempting to follow in his footsteps (lots and lots of footsteps, actually) any time soon.  If we ever feel the need to travel 70.3 miles, we’ll just use a Workman GTX.
