So this has been the winter of record snow, polar vortexes, and unbelievable winter conditions that we will all remember for years to come.   Many golf courses have been covered in snow for extended periods of time, leaving many to wonder what they will see when it all melts in the coming weeks.   What strategies do you have and what should you be concerned about?   We share a recent article from the USGA that addresses those concerns and gives you the steps you need to take to minimize the potential damages from the snow accumulations we have seen this winter.

Experts Explain: Continuous Snow Coverage On Putting Greens

Snow cover is not necessarily a bad thing because it insulates the turf from cold temperature extremes and severe temperature fluctuations. Snow cover also protects turf from winter wind desiccation. In fact, snow coverage in and of itself is rarely a problem for turf because gas exchange between the soil and atmosphere is not completely restricted. Ice, on the other hand, if it persists for too long, is much more dangerous to turf health. If continuous ice coverage is a concern, the following actions should be considered as the final stretch of the winter season approaches.
